At Sunline Energy, we love “geeky” solar news – from floating panels to PV roads to space-based solar lasers.
Some projects are 100% impractical. Others are just months away from becoming mainstream.
But all of them show that we’re just scratching the surface when it comes to solar technology. By 2050, sunshine is expected to be the #1 electricity source on the planet. And over the next 35 years, we can only imagine the countless inventions and applications that will emerge as solar takes its rightful place in the global energy mix.
Case in point is a new experiment happening right here in California. It may work – it may not. But it’s pretty geeky and inspiring nonetheless.
We’re talking about Quay Valley (named after project developer Quay Hays).
The Solar City of the Future – Doable or Not?
When it’s completed, Quay Valley will be a solar-powered community just outside Kings County, California. Spread over 3,000 hectares (11.6 sq miles), this community will contain resorts, hotels, restaurants, and about 25,000 residential properties.
Having a solar-powered city isn’t really new. In fact, it’s not even new in California.
What makes Quay Valley different is the 25 km high-speed transport that will also run on pure, solar energy. PV-enabled cars and RVs are already commonplace. But solar-powered public transport would be a huge leap forward for the renewable energy industry.
What’s really cool is that the main barriers to Quay Valley’s success aren’t technological. We already have the parts, equipment, and machinery to make this solar city work.
No – the biggest hurdles are mostly regulatory.
Project developers have already submitted applications, and they are waiting for approvals. If Quay Valley receives the green light, everything else should move forward as planned. And if this solar community succeeds, there’s a very good chance that we’ll see more projects of this kind in the future.
Should You Reserve a Spot at Quay Valley?
When Quay Valley becomes operational, there will probably be a long waiting list for the 25,000 homes. But believe it or not, you can make your own home run on 100% pure sunshine today. And doing so can actually boost the total value of your property – by a lot.
The future is here. By harnessing free sunshine, you can:
- Reduce your utility bill
- Lower your carbon footprint
- Increase your home’s value
And you can do all of this without getting on a waiting list.
